Aeronautical Engineering department  aims to train engineers in the design, production, testing, research and development, maintenance and repair of aircraft, aircraft engines, helicopters and all kinds of manned and unmanned vehicles in air and space. Aeronautical engineering requires the acquisition of engineering skills in areas such as aerodynamics, flight dynamics and control, propulsion, avionics, materials science and structural analysis. In addition, it is a strong interdisciplinary engineering field, which is in close relationship with engineering departments that provide education in the field of mechanics such as Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering and Civil Engineering as well as Electrical, Electronics and Computer Engineering.

Considering that the Aircraft and Space industry will continue to develop rapidly, and the breakthroughs in our defense industry will continue to grow together with civil and military aviation, it is necessary to fill the shortage of engineers who receive qualified Aeronautical Engineering education and to meet the needs of this industry. The Department of Aircraft Engineering aims to train aircraft engineers who will take an active role in the design and manufacture of new types of aircraft to be developed and produced by contributing to the technological development of the Turkish aircraft industry, where military and civil aircraft are concentrated, and will enable these engineers to create the human resources to carry out research and application studies on aircraft and general aviation. They will also be able to provide technical support for the maintenance and repair of military and civil aircraft.

In today's world, the importance of the aircraft and space industry is great and it is increasing. The transportation sector is a sector that needs continuous development as the passenger capacity of the aircraft is increased and long distances are desired to be overcome in a shorter time. In addition, in the defense industry sector, the requirements of countries to produce their own aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles, rockets and space vehicles are increasing. The aeronautical engineering department will maintain its importance in the future as it is today, as it is directly related to these sectors.
